Insider Event | From Data to Decarbonisation: Confronting the Challenges for Road & Rail.

“Data is the new oil”, but our reliance on a carbon-based transport system must be quashed. Climate change already poses significant threats to the entire of the UK’s transport infrastructure: from our cyber and physical infrastructure, vehicles, and supply chains, to the health and livelihoods of communities. To achieve a climate-resilient and decarbonised road and rail system, we must harness the power of data to inform decision-making and planning, better understand risks and vulnerabilities, and guide us towards a net zero future. But how exactly do we do that? This webinar is hosted by the National Hub for Decarbonised, Adaptable, Resilient Transport Infrastructures (DARe) - a programme sponsored by the Department for Transport and UKRI.

Over three billion journeys were made by bus in the UK in 2022. Buses remain the most used form of transport across the country and provide customers with an unrivalled low cost and green option for travel. They are the essential backbone of many areas, connecting people to jobs, education, and their communities. This event will discuss how government can encourage an increase in bus passengers, as well as how to decarbonise England’s bus fleet. We will highlight the findings of our upcoming report, A bus revolution: driving up prosperity across the regions which presents a costed 5 year plan to better, greener buses. The panel discussion will be followed by an audience Q&A.
